I would first ask yourself your goal of your website. If it is simply a brochure style website with limited needed uallunctionality, you best bet may be to go with a developer that can just set it up for you. The time and learning curve will be better spent on your business than trying to build your own website. If you plan to continually develop websites, then go with Dreamweaver. You can get templates to use and just easily modify it.

You may spend 80 - 100 hours trying to learn how to build a website, whereas you can pay someone under a thousand usually to set it up for you. It depends how much your time is worth.

I recommend using SiteSpinner by Virtual Mechanics (www.virtualmechanics.com). When I started using it I had never built a website before. Now I have built 4 and I have been very pleased. The forums on their website are very informative for beginners and their customer service is excellent. SiteSpinner is only $49 and comes with a 14 day trial. It's definitely worth a shot.
References :
Here's two websites I have built on SiteSpinner: www.alanblair.info

If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a "homepage" which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage. Nevertheless, the "homepage" URL is likely to be "http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... name" and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., "mydomain.com" which allows you to link any registered domain name to "mask" another website. For example, should you type in "domainname.com", you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... name will be masked by the domainname.com. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE. Here's a demonstration: Type in the URL window: "www.pizzanextdoor.com" which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: "http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzamen... and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name!

Good luck!
References :
NO they are not on both counts! Monthly charges are not good.

I'm a fairly new web developer - enough knowledge for smart ebay ads and I made this site: rouletteracing.co.uk / nfsu2 (the server is updating just now, check it later :)

I've used Dreamweaver and it really is excellent but I'd need to go on a course to make the most of it (Like with SageLine50). Now I only use notepad, lol.

1) MS Publisher (Dunno how much it costs but you might already have it!) is actually very good at making websites very easily and quickly! From there you can learn new tricks but it will get you online quick - it did for me (I actually made my first £150 from a Pub built site, lol)

After the Pub (I mean MS Pub):

2) To learn very basic html code I used Turbolister (An ebay listing program) to great effect - gives you exactly the code you need to make minor changes to text/colours and stuff (And it made me realise things like "colour" is coded "color", "Centre" is coded "Center" - AmerEnglish-like).

3) goto lissaexplains.com and get your head round css and css layouts - this will give you a quantum leap in building pages that you can change at will for your entire site (Glad you have some IT skills :) The site is aimed at Kids but aren't we all?

You should get a proper (Not free) domain and make sure it allows all ssi commands as this enables you to use includes (You do need to be able to use includes). DON'T PAY £15 per month - you can get better than that from your own IT friends!

RE: SSI: I just found this page - http://www.tdscripts.com/ssi.html good SSI info

goto ebay.co.uk and find me - gr7autohobbies (There will be "1 items found for gr7autohobbies in eBay Shops") - message me, tell me what you asked and what I said and give me a proper email address - I'll send you the entire code/files for my nfsu2 site to get you started :)

Good luck, have fun
References :
Me!

If you want a “want to create professional looking website" then you going to have to break down and get Dreamweaver. It’s pricey but good. If you settle for cheaper go to www.GoDaddy.com and get their "Website Tonight" click on https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosting/hosting_build_website.asp?ci=9170

I hope this helps. If it does tell them that WebmasterSanta sent you their way. It's not the software I use, I use Dreamweaver but some like it.

Well if you have some knowledge in HTML very few knowledge you can download the trial of Dream weaver then you can create a site yourself and always you can get help from templates online you can find some on http://www.templatemonster.com/free-templates.php for example or if you need any professional design because mostly using template from hosting sites isn't the best idea you may have troubles doing what you wish.

and you can download dreamweaver from http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/ and it helps a lot

Best regards
References :
Well try yahoo. Try their free web design program Sitebuilder. Use their webhosting. Your other options for a stand-alone program would be Microsoft Frontpage or something and it's not free. Check out sitebuilder. It's a lot like frontpage actually.
