Fight a Traffic Ticket

When you get a traffic ticket, it doesn’t seem very funny at the moment, but when you sit back and take a look at the things people will do to fight a traffic ticket, most of them seem downright dumb. And in all honesty, the best way to fight a traffic ticket is not to remember what to do, but remember what you shouldn’t do!

Think about it - You’re stuck in traffic and your patience is running thin. Trying to get around traffic, you pull onto the shoulder and pass traffic until a cop comes to pull you over. When the cop comes to your window, the excuses start to fly off of the handle. “Well officer, sounded like it was about to explode, so I figured I would drive on the shoulder until I could get off on the next exit”. He probably won’t buy this one. This is one way NOT to beat a ticket!

What about when you approach a stop sign, look around to see if anyone is there, and then blow completely through it? Sure enough, a cop is right around the corner and pulls you over. Then, you give the usual “I didn’t see it” or “I came to a full stop”. He probably won’t buy these, either.

You see, these are prime examples of what you shouldn’t do when you get pulled over for a traffic violation. If you want to know exactly what you should do, I know of an excellent resource that could have you beating nearly every traffic ticket that you ever get, all without the lame excuses!

How to fight traffic ticket, red light violation?
I recd traffic ticket for Red Light violation. I was turning left and i enerted the intersection while it was yellow and within the fraction i entered it turned red. The office waiting rt across the street gave me a red violation ticket. How can I clear this ticket? The interesction I entered has red light cameras. Will it help me fight the ticket?

It can help, otherwise get a lawyer and get it reduced to a non-moving violation and avoid the points.

Fighting that ticket will cost you a bundle if you are going to attempt to get footage from that camera. I agree with the previous post, go for a non-moving violation. You may not have to hire an attorney. Call the number on the back of your ticket–which will be the court clerk–and see if the Court reduces moving violations to non-moving and what forms they require.

Based upon what you said you will lose the case. If the cop was sitting at the intersection and watched the whole thing and states this to a judge you can’t win. What you need to do is to make sure that you dress up nice when you go to court. Address the judge as Your Honor. Speak only when spoken to. Plead not guilty. Do not admit to anything. Ask for a reduction to a non moving violation. Usually as long as the police officer agrees, the judge will reduce the sentence to a small fine and two points. but these points don’t even effect your insurance rates.

Cameras at intersections usually record for periods of time, then cycle through to re-record over the same footage. Unless you get to the tape quickly enough, this won’t be available to bolster your case. I think you should go to court on your first appearance date, meet with the assistant district attorney in the hallway (they do this as a rule before your case appears on the docket) and try to nicely negotiate it into something lesser than a red light violation. Be nice, though - if you are a smart ass, he or she will nail you to the full extent of your violation. Be positive and try to be convincing - don’t bad mouth the cop. Good luck!
