My website should be up and running within the next few days.

Hey,

If you’ve got a small budget, you can purchase online advertising space - I own a website which sells this, and your space can be re-sold to other users if you feel you’ve had enough!

So technically you wont be loosing out - you can even make a profit if you have a unique number of advertising squares.

PM me for more info.

    Here are a few tips:

    1. Get your site submitted to the search engines: Google (usually will find you pretty fast on their own), Yahoo, Ask, Bing, DMOZ. DMOZ is extremely important. Yahoo Directory is important, too.

    2. Get as many quality links to your site as possible. You want to link to something that is relavant. Google is big on relavancy. You can blog, leaving comments a a link to your site. You can even answer questions related to your site on Yahoo Answers and leave your link as the source.

    3. Check out what your successful competitors use for links.

    4. Lastly, link to your own site within your site, i.e., You list a page about picking apples, and you also have a page about the different varieties of apples. Add a link on the picking apples page to your apple varieties page. Again, this shows relavance.

If you are willing to pay for traffic, I would use AdWords. Gets you the initial traffic fast.

I would do it as you’re starting out, then SEO will kick in.

The best way to get free targeted website traffic is through your site’s content. Search engines love good quality, relevant content.

The other way is to use social media. This takes a little longer, requires knowledge of social media etiquette but can be very productive in attracting warm, interested visitors to your site.

As far as getting sponsors, unless you are already getting several hundred to several thousand visitors every day, it is unlikely anyone would advertise on your site. Putting up adsense ads could even be detrimental to your site’s rankings until your site is indexed and established.
