Value of Website Design For Building a Website
Web space is flooded with a billion sites. Website design reinforces how a site is going to fare in the web market. Each business requires traffic. Without visitors, a website runs into oblivion. It is only natural. Visitors help in generating sign ups. Such sign ups finally convert into sales. So when you look to build websites, the agenda should be to lure visitors. Here, the website design comes into play. There are many things to consider while building a website.
There are many things to be cleared up in order to develop proper website design. First, we need to buy a domain name for the website. Domain names which are very common and easily optimized can be costly. Here the idea is to choose names which automatically introduce us to the product, but the name should be niche oriented and not generic. For instance, when we build websites for a milk company, we should not name it www.milk.com. We should rather look to name it www.doubletonedmilk.com.
Once you have a domain name then you will need to look at a web hosting account. If the website needs a lot of server support, then you need a dedicated server or you can choose to use a shared server. It depends on the complexity of script and codes which the server will need to run. This is a very important part of website design. Here, people look for additional technical features like Joomla.
Next, there is a need for a theme. Themes can be downloaded cost free, but premium themes for website design usually are usually paid for. The next issue is perhaps the most important. To build websites, it is very important to effectively combine website content with website design. You should not cut corners here. A great content writer should be picked who can handle the nuances of search engine optimization.
We have discussed the need for website content. Now about website design: decorating a site with flash pages and flash splash pages are equally important. Proper highlighting completely catches the eye of a visitor. This way, he is lured to go deep into the website.
To build websites which book revenue for us, the website design must look for an affiliated ad facility. Here it is important to align with those sites which have a product quite similar to yours. For instance, a shoe site should align with leather sites and socks site. Attaching itself with a car website would not help.
For purposeful website design, the last but most valuable concept is Search engine optimization. For getting visitors, it is important to draw Google’s attention. This can be done if the website selects the right kind of keywords, works on long-tail keywords, and uses correct methods of cross-linking.

Best 'beginner' software for website design/creation ?
I want to create professional looking website for a new business venture. I am IT literate although not in web technologies unfortunately. I have browsed thru a few sites that offer online web building tools and domain linking for a small monthly fee.
Are these
a) good enough tools to create professional looking sites ?
b) value for money ?
How difficult would it be to download some software then create my own website and get it online.
What are my options ?
Well try yahoo. Try their free web design program Sitebuilder. Use their webhosting. Your other options for a stand-alone program would be Microsoft Frontpage or something and it’s not free. Check out sitebuilder. It’s a lot like frontpage actually.

If you want a “want to create professional looking website" then you going to have to break down and get Dreamweaver. It’s pricey but good. If you settle for cheaper go to http://www.GoDaddy.com and get their "Website Tonight" click on https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosting/hosting_build_website.asp?ci=9170
I hope this helps. If it does tell them that WebmasterSanta sent you their way. It’s not the software I use, I use Dreamweaver but some like it.

Useful help site for building sites

NO they are not on both counts! Monthly charges are not good.
I’m a fairly new web developer - enough knowledge for smart ebay ads and I made this site: rouletteracing.co.uk / nfsu2 (the server is updating just now, check it later
I’ve used Dreamweaver and it really is excellent but I’d need to go on a course to make the most of it (Like with SageLine50). Now I only use notepad, lol.
1) MS Publisher (Dunno how much it costs but you might already have it!) is actually very good at making websites very easily and quickly! From there you can learn new tricks but it will get you online quick - it did for me (I actually made my first £150 from a Pub built site, lol)
After the Pub (I mean MS Pub):
2) To learn very basic html code I used Turbolister (An ebay listing program) to great effect - gives you exactly the code you need to make minor changes to text/colours and stuff (And it made me realise things like "colour" is coded "color", "Centre" is coded "Center" - AmerEnglish-like).
3) goto lissaexplains.com and get your head round css and css layouts - this will give you a quantum leap in building pages that you can change at will for your entire site (Glad you have some IT skills
The site is aimed at Kids but aren’t we all?
You should get a proper (Not free) domain and make sure it allows all ssi commands as this enables you to use includes (You do need to be able to use includes). DON’T PAY £15 per month - you can get better than that from your own IT friends!
RE: SSI: I just found this page - http://www.tdscripts.com/ssi.html good SSI info
goto ebay.co.uk and find me - gr7autohobbies (There will be "1 items found for gr7autohobbies in eBay Shops") - message me, tell me what you asked and what I said and give me a proper email address - I’ll send you the entire code/files for my nfsu2 site to get you started
Good luck, have fun

If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a "homepage" which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage. Nevertheless, the "homepage" URL is likely to be "http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber… name" and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., "mydomain.com" which allows you to link any registered domain name to "mask" another website. For example, should you type in "domainname.com", you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... name will be masked by the domainname.com. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE. Here’s a demonstration: Type in the URL window: "www.pizzanextdoor.com" which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: "http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzamen… and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name!
Good luck!

I recommend using SiteSpinner by Virtual Mechanics (www.virtualmechanics.com). When I started using it I had never built a website before. Now I have built 4 and I have been very pleased. The forums on their website are very informative for beginners and their customer service is excellent. SiteSpinner is only $49 and comes with a 14 day trial. It’s definitely worth a shot.

I would first ask yourself your goal of your website. If it is simply a brochure style website with limited needed uallunctionality, you best bet may be to go with a developer that can just set it up for you. The time and learning curve will be better spent on your business than trying to build your own website. If you plan to continually develop websites, then go with Dreamweaver. You can get templates to use and just easily modify it.
You may spend 80 - 100 hours trying to learn how to build a website, whereas you can pay someone under a thousand usually to set it up for you. It depends how much your time is worth.
